Your Feet Must Support You Forever - Avoid Ankle Tendonitis
Let me keep you some background information and also talk a little bit about how we can help prevent tendinitis in the ankle.
Runners and joggers can get into a training mode that can be sometimes hard on their ankles. This also can happen to people who have jobs that required them being on their feet constantly. What can happen is that you may start to develop tendonitis in your ankles.
What is tendonitis? It is really just an inflammation of the tendon. The tendon is used to connect the bone to the actual muscle. What happens sometimes if the tendon gets overworked or you may put too much force on a particular tendon you could develop tendonitis.
Some symptoms of tendonitis are swelling, pain and the area that is swollen is tender to the touch. It could be difficult to move the ankle without a shooting pain going from the ankle to the calf.
There is another similar tendonitis which is called Achilles tendonitis. This is the inflammation of the Achilles tendon and this is very common form of ankle tendonitis. These two types of tendonitis occur in runners and people on there feet a lot.
A way to treat Ankle Tendonitis
Now let’s talk a bit about what you can do at home if you are suffering a mild case of ankle tendonitis. One thing that will work wonders is to use an ice pack. A bag of frozen pea’s can work great for this. You want to use the ice for 15 minutes at a time. Wrap your ankle if you need to be on your feet, this will help support the ankle and keep it in place and help prevent further injury.
Another method that doctor’s sometimes prescribe is a cortisone injection. They are not to much in favor of this in the ankle because the tendon can rupture very easy. You can also put a cushion in your shoe and this is going to help support the foot and possibly keep you somewhat pain free during activity.
Everyone realizes that your feet are a vital part of your body. If you can, you want to keep them injury free and that includes ankle tendonitis or you could have permanent injury.
If you start to feel pain or swelling in your ankle and you have had ankle tendonitis in the past, you need to try and not over do it. One thing that you may want to do is to talk to a physical therapist or even an orthopedic doctor to learn how to not injure or learn to maneuver your feet during physical activity. This will help prevent further damage. If you can, get off your feet and give them a chance to rest.
